Adventures in Karpenisi, Greece may not be the most well-known destination in the world, but it has so much to offer both in terms of scenery and outdoor adventures that you’ll definitely want to make it your next travel stop. Here are five of our favorite outdoor adventures you can have in Karpenisi!

How to Reach Karpenisi?

If you’re in Athens and only have a short time to take a trip, why not try a little adventure close to home? The mountains of central Greece are an area known for outdoor adventure opportunities. The island of Crete is also nearby if you want to plan a longer trip with an outdoor focus. Here are some outdoor activities you can enjoy while visiting Karpenisi.

Adventures to do in Karpenisi, Greece:

Hiking:

You’ll find great hikes throughout Northern Greece. Many are outside of big cities like Thessaloniki and Athens. One of my favorite spots is Karpenisi, a small city outside Thessaloniki that sits at the base of Mount Falakro and has plenty of hiking trails to explore.

Biking:

Biking is a fantastic way to get out and enjoy the fresh air. The roads around Karpenisi are generally flat, making them great for beginners or anyone looking for a fun ride. If you’re staying at our hotel in Karpenisi, we can help you arrange bike rentals if you don’t have your own wheels with you. Here are six great biking routes around town to get you started: (1) (2) (3) (4) (5) (6). Choose from beautiful coastline rides all day long, or push yourself as far up Mount Vitsi as possible. Some routes include stops at towns along their path; either way, be sure to set aside plenty of time to explore once you reach your destination! There’s no better feeling than knowing that you earned that ice cream on sight-seeing day! And remember…when it rains in Karpenisi, it usually means there will be an incredible rainbow over town by evening.

Canoeing:

Canoeing through Sarakino Gorge is an adventure for those looking to experience nature at its wildest. If you’re lucky, you may even spot a deer or two along your journey. Due to its remoteness and unpredictable weather conditions (expect hail or even snow), Canoeing through Sarakino Gorge should only be attempted by experienced paddlers who are comfortable with portaging. This trip is definitely not for first-timers!

Kayaking:

There are a number of rivers and lakes around Karpenisi that make for stunning kayaking destinations. If you’re not an experienced kayaker, there are plenty of places to rent kayaks or book guided tours. Picking your own route through these waters will make for an unforgettable experience. Don’t worry if you have a case of nerves—these bodies of water tend to be calm and beautiful.

Fishing:

Fishing enthusiasts will have a blast taking to Lake Plastira. There are plenty of spots along its shore where anglers can cast their lines, and they’ll come back with quite a catch! Don’t forget your sunblock.
