Men’s World Cup match is the first to feature a full female referee crew.

A referee team will be made up entirely of women for the first time in men’s World Cup history. The trio will participate on Thursday’s group stage matchup between Germany and Costa Rica.

The three officials, led by Stephanie Frappart, also include Mexican Karen Diaz Medina and Brazilian Neuza Back. At a men’s World Cup, Frappart will serve as the first female referee. When she was the fourth official at the Mexico and Poland game last week, she also made history as the tournament’s first female official.

The female referee team is aware of the pressure from the World Cup.

Frappart previously discussed the event’s historical ramifications. Before the competition began, Frappart told BBC Sport, “We know the pressure.”

“However, I do not believe we will alter ourselves. Keep your cool, pay attention, and keep your focus on the task at hand. Do not think too much about the media or anything else.”

Hansi Flick, the head coach of Germany, gave Frappart his full support during his Wednesday press conference. The German coach declared, “I have complete faith in the referee.” Because of her performances, she deserves it. I’m hoping she’s as excited about the game as we are.
